How You Can Help

​

The Wooten Center returned to our youth center in June 2021 for the start of our new hybrid summer and afterschool programs. We will be continuing our virtual private tutoring to help mitigate learning losses due to the pandemic. 

​

Volunteers are needed to serve as private tutors and in other areas including administration and technology. Volunteers can serve weekly or once or occasionally in opportunities such as guest mentors for our monthly College and Career Day.

​

Volunteers are very important for helping us provide quality programming, personalized instruction, and a world of opportunities for students in grades 3-12 in the South Los Angeles area.

What's Next?​

Our volunteer onboarding consists of three steps: Interview, Orientation and Checks (background, child abuse, reference). The background check to be conducted by the center at no cost is for tutors and other volunteers who will be interacting with students on an ongoing basis. Click on the buttons above for a preview of the orientations.

Tutors will complete a brief teaching demonstration and training as part of the interview and orientation. Onboarding for tutors takes about two or more weeks as we work to ensure a safe and nurturing environment for our students.
