The Wooten Center owns six storefront buildings built in the 1940s. We are engaged in a capital campaign to fully renovate and transform our buildings into one modern youth center facility--the only one of its kind in our neighborhood in South LA's Gramercy Park.
The renovation will double our building capacity to 120 students in grades 3-12. It will improve our ability to supervise students, provide a larger space for SAT-prep and other workshops, and provide some much needed improvements for plumbing, electrical, internet and more. We may even add solar!
Rick Shlemmer, principal at SAA interiors + architecture, taught architecture classes in summer 2017 and 2018 (pics on right) to guide our students in developing our site plan and design concept. The latter provides samples of paint colors, flooring, counters, tiles and more chosen by our students with guidance from SAA staff.
Click here for a look at our proposed site plan designed by the kids and Rick. Design concept pics to come.
We need to raise a minimum of $2.5 million. Will you help us?
We have a preferred deposit account at Merrill Lynch to earn a higher interest rate while raising the funds. Contact our broker Marco Chu above to contribute.
