Making a difference

for life!

The Wooten Center has come a long way since 1990 when our founder, Myrtle Faye Rumph, opened the center with four pre-teen boys (Devlan Boyd, Lamar Porter, Jason Wilborne, Brett Williams). The challenge of serving some 300-400 youths annually at our 91st and Western location and other sites in the South Los Angeles area and enhancing our offerings for these bright minds demand that we continually upgrade our programs and services.

We are grateful for every supporter who has joined us in partnering with schools and parents to make a difference in the lives of our students. Thank you for catching the vision of a safe and nurturing environment committed to good citizenship and academic excellence.

The Al Wooten Jr. Heritage Center is a nonprofit youth center named after our founder's son, killed in a drive-by shooting in 1989. We provide free afterschool and low-cost summer programs for boys and girls in grades 3-12. Click on About Us/History for more information on our founding in 1990.
