Naomi McSwain
Naomi McSwain has more than 20 years in nonprofit management, including over 10 years as a youth center executive director. She has a BA degree in journalism and marketing from Cal State University, Northridge, and an MA in intercultural studies and children at risk from Fuller Theological Seminary where she completed her thesis on gang prevention and intervention in Los Angeles. She is a graduate of Compass Point’s Fundraising Academy for Communities of Color, and The Grantmanship Center’s Project Grantmanship. Naomi joined our staff as executive director in February 2011. Following her work as a reporter for media including the Wave Newspapers, Pasadena Star-News and PBS-Frontline and as editor of Turning Point and other community development magazines, Naomi worked as executive director of youth centers in Moreno Valley and Perris, and as a youth development consultant and trainer for World Vision U.S.
Clifford Sanchez
Clifford Sanchez, program director of recreation, has been an employee of the center since 1992. His duties include overseeing volunteers, field trips and programming for the center’s recreational programs. He attended the University of Hawaii as a scholarship student athlete and graduated in 1981 with a bachelor’s degree from the College of Education. In 1994 Cliff played professional basketball in Sao Paulo, Brazil (Rio Claro). Cliff was also honored by the Los Angeles Dodgers as its 2000 Hometown Hero.
Alexis Marion
Alexis Marion is our CollegeTrack program coordinator. Her duties include teaching SAT preparation classes for juniors at several area high schools and providing college advisement to help senior-level students complete their enrollment and financial aid and scholarship applications. Alexis also provides recruitment, tracking and other administration for CollegeTrack. She teaches writing in our afterschool program and conducts Street Soldiers gang prevention trainings. Alexis graduated Cum Laude from Tufts University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science. She came to the center in 2010 and has several years experience instructing youth and providing for their educational needs.
Christelle Telesford Christelle Telesford is our CollegeTrek program coordinator. Christelle has a bachelor’s degree in educational services management from CSU Long Beach. Along with her duties teaching in the writing lab in our afterschool program, Christelle supervises our afterschool staff and volunteers and assists our executive director with program development and assessments. She has several years experience working with school-age youth, including serving as a private tutor for several students.
Marcos Escobar Marcos Escobar is a program assistant in our afterschool program. He is a biology major at CSU Dominguez and teacher of our science and math labs. Marcos has a passion for preparing our youth for advanced studies and can be oftentimes seen helping them configure and test some model or experiment in the classrooms and on the playground.
Sean Sherman
Sean Sherman, program assistant, has been an employee of the Wooten Center since 2009. He started out assisting with homework and is now teaching classes in poetry and art. He also teaches a weekly Street Soldiers class for teens at the center. Sean is a student at West Los Angeles College where he is completing an associate’s degree in business administration. Helping children is his passion. He is also thankful to be a part of an organization dedicated to uplifting the community one child at a time.



Steven Fuller Steven Fuller, program coordinator, is not an official staff member. Steven is an AmeriCorps intern serving through a grant provided by TechMission Corps. Steven has a bachelor’s of science degree in sociology from UC Santa Barbara. He teaches in our math lab but also shares a passion for basketball. His goal is to be a math teacher in a public school setting. Meanwhile, he is learning first-hand the joy of instructing students and helping them increase their knowledge.
